I am relatively new to the Energy industry and being that I have just a few years of expereience under my belt, I thought I would try and address the 'retirment doomsday' that is emproaching on the O&G industry.
Each and every day I walk into the office and hear about the lack of experience, knowledge, and leadership that is in store for the industry after so many of the true veterins take their final promotion into retirment. Its no surprise to many of us that this type of attitude is being expressed as the amount of qualified and more importantly skilled labor pool tightens. Managers and leaders alike are dissatisfied with the lack of field experience their candidates have and just cant seem to find the right people to step up and fill their shoes once they are gone.
Not only are they having trouble finding qualified employees, but they are having even more trouble inspringing the loyalty that creates long-lasting employees. The competition for both experience and talent is heating up, and the field continues to fall short in supplying these high level employees.
